5 Healthy Habits to Help Beat Postpartum Depression

Having a baby is a fun and exciting time for mothers. However, it can also be quite stressful due to sleep deprivation and hormone changes, so it’s no surprise that many women experience “baby blues” after giving birth. In fact, 80% of new mothers suffer postpartum depression (PPD) in the first year. To help beat postpartum depression, follow these healthy habits.

Solutions for Postpartum Depression

1. Lean on others for help.

If you’re battling postpartum depression, it’s important to talk to others about your feelings instead of keeping them to yourself. While friends and family can serve as a much-needed emotional outlet, a professional mental health counselor may help you navigate through your difficult emotions.

2. Make time for your relationship.

With the demands of a new baby, it’s common for relationships to take a backseat. However, it’s important to remember that romantic relationships are a primary source of emotional support and connection. Therefore, it’s essential to carve out time for just the two of you.

3. Eat a healthy balanced diet.

A healthy and balanced diet is essential when battling postpartum depression. Eating healthy food and having regular meals will boost your energy levels and mood. Plus, we recommend exercising if you have time to increase endorphins.

4. Get plenty of rest.

A new baby can make it difficult for mothers to get adequate rest. If necessary, ask your friends or family to watch your baby so you can avoid feeling exhausted or overwhelmed.

5. Don’t feel guilty.

Having a baby is meant to fill parents will joy. Unfortunately, guilt is a common feeling for women who suffer from PPD. If you’re feeling the blues, don’t be so hard on yourself. Being the perfect parent is impossible, so remember to take time to practice our recommended habits.
