How to Survive Allergy Season

Spring tends to be the cruelest time of year for people who suffer from allergies. During the high season, pollen begins moving through the air and entering our nose, throat, and eyes. This can trigger symptoms that include sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and headaches. Fortunately, there are ways to make sure your allergies don’t get the best of you.

Coping with Allergies

Are allergies hitting you harder than ever? Here’s how to survive allergy season.

Workout indoors.

Consider working out indoors on high-pollen days. We recommend checking the pollen count by heading to aaaai.org, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology website.

Head to the drugstore.

Over-the-counter decongestants and antihistamines can help relieve allergy symptoms, including sniffles, itching, and stuffy noses.

Try a Saline Nasal Rinse.

Not a fan of allergy medications that can make you groggy? We recommend trying a saline nasal rinse to help clear allergens from your nasal membranes. If you have a sore or scratchy throat, try gargling salt water once a day.

Clean your home.

Spring is the perfect time to deep clean your home to remove allergens and pollutants. Wash your curtains, area rugs, shower curtains, and throw pillows with hot water at least once a month. Vacuum once a week with a HEPA filter to ensure that 99% of dust particle are collected and retained. Always wear a mask when cleaning your home.

Change your clothes after work.

Instead of dragging allergens throughout your home, remove your shoes and clothes when you get home from school or work. Consider showering at night to wash off any pollen.
