Must-Do Hikes Near Salt Lake City

The Wasatch Front is home to hundreds of scenic hikes. Here are some of our personal favorites.

Willow Lake

If you’re looking for an easy hike with beautiful colors and scenic views, look no further than Willow Lake.  This 2-mile round trip hike takes you through aspen forest to a picturesque lake. After you make it through the forest, you’ll arrive in a large meadow.

Albion Basin

During mid-July through August, this hike offers an array of wildflowers with beautiful mountain scenery. Some of the wildflowers you’ll see on this hike include lupine, Indian paintbrush, American bistort, sunflowers, fireweed, and more.

Ensign Peak

Ensign Peak offers views of downtown Salt Lake City, the Great Salt Lake, and the Wasatch Mountains. This 1-mile hike perfect for the beginner hiker.

White Pine Lake

White Pine Lake is ideal for a day hike or overnight backpacking trip. About 5 miles from the trailhead, you’ll find the beautiful White Pine Lake where the water is an extraordinary blue color. Hikers will also have access to views of mountains, meadows, streams, and valleys.

Bell Canyon

Bell Canyon, also known as Bell’s Canyon or Bells Canyon, is a circular, glacier-carved canyon next to Little Cottonwood Canyon. The canyon offers several options, including two short, easy routes to Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir, and a more difficult hike to waterfalls and Upper Bell Canyon Reservoir.

Donut Falls

Donut Falls is a popular trail roughly 9 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon. The trail is relatively short and easy, leading to a waterfall where Big Cottonwood Creek goes through a doughnut-shaped hole in the rock. The trail is 2.5 miles total using the Mill D trailhead or 1.5 miles total using the Donut Falls trailhead.
