National Arthritis Awareness Month

Each year, May is recognized as National Arthritis Awareness Month. As a national event organized by the Arthritis Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it’s designed to raise awareness about arthritis and its negative impacts. At Lake View Family Medicine, we proudly promote National Arthritis Awareness Month in an effort to improve health care for each and every one of our patients.

The Impact of Arthritis

With nearly 53 million adults in the United States suffering from arthritis, the condition can affect anyone and everyone. Although it’s most likely to occur in older individuals due to deterioration of the bones and joints, arthritis doesn’t discriminate. In fact, nearly 53 million adults have been diagnosed with the painful condition. Believe it or not, that number is expected to climb to 67 million by the year 2030, according to the Arthritis Foundation. Those who suffer from arthritis experience physical changes that can affect work and social activities, leading to financial difficulties and isolation. It’s possible to feel a loss of control, frustration, depression, and anxiety due to the chronic illness. By taking the proper steps to understanding and treating arthritis, it’s possible to take back control of your life. If you’re suffering from arthritis, we’re here to help.
